Am today situated ocean side at the edge of the dune on the south end of Amelia Island...Fernandina Beach Florida. A wonderful friend and supporter has once again gifted use of a lovely retreat where the sight and sound of the ocean are everpresent and a powerful serenity overcomes a weary spirit. Have enjoyed Espana as ever....Cole and Roberto speak cheffinese and the mako is spendid. At the farmers market I was gifted a bar of discontinued soap that I really enjoy...from the maker of emollient wonderful bars. My newest clients are a refreshing delight. Today I installed four citrus trees to anchor what will become a kitchen harvest and cutting garden full of herb and flower. As I dig and work in this small corridor I am awash in the full sun...the buzzing volume of the bees that work the vibrant flowers of pineapple sage can be felt on the skin... the aroma wafting from jasmine, rosemary, lemon, salt and oak a dizzying intoxicating cacophony. Gloriosa lily blooms exotic delicate insectile profusion and blood red passionflower drips in veils amongst the confederate jasmine. The garden is incredibly hot in the mid day sun but then at the same time somehow quite cool. The intensity and volume of fragrance is so heady that bended knee seems the most perfect place to perch for the catching of breath. Today was four citrus trees the remainder is growing rapidly as Spring approaches and temperatures climb. After years of sourcing and networking I am blessed to have plant material available in the marketplace of solid quality full vigor and beautiful color. Providing all goes along swimmingly I will be in Fernandina from St. Patrick's until September at next base tucked away in the forest not far from American Beach! On Saturday I attended a dual birthday party for two beautiful three year old girls. The wide flung arms and smiling face of an admiring child proved remarkable tonic for a aching spot I hadn't realized was there. I feel an oyster roast party coming on.
